If you want to improve your gaming skills, you should take the time and read this, its common sense :D and its not too long.

Getting better with iD.Artosis

iD You SUCK, accept it
Lots of people ask about how to improve their game at sc, and they often get bland answers like 'play a million games' and 'watch your losing replays'. Sure both of these help, but they do not give much direction. If you want to get better, you must first accept that you SUCK. I am quite serious about this. If you want to improve and you already think of yourself as very good, then you will get mad at your losses, and not improve correctly. StarCraft is a very complicated game. Do not be mad if you suck at it. If you get mad after losses at all, you need to step back for a moment and wonder if you should be playing at all. Instead of getting mad, start to analyze why it is that you lost a game. Did you attack at the wrong area? Was your macro or micro off? Were you caught off-guard by cheese? Were you simply outclassed?

iD Choose carefully your opponents
The next step is: do not play with your friends. People are mostly friends with people of similar skill levels. If you want to be improving, you should be winning probably right around 40% of your games. This means you are playing people better than you, but not so much better that you won't understand why you lose.

iD Ask for tips
Ask for tips. When you find a player better than you who is willing to beat u around a bit, ask them for some tips on what you are doing wrong. But take these tips with a grain of salt. Just because they are better than you does not mean they know what they are talking about.

iD Work..
Work on your game mechanics. By game mechanics I mean hotkeys, macro and micro. This is the quickest way to improve your game overall. Macro is the most important thing to learn. Playing mass games is one way to do this.

iD Strategy and timing
Strategy and timing. You should have some basic strategies at least, like not going zerglings vs mass firebats, but do not set anything in stone. Just play loose while you learn macro and micro. As for timing (for attacks especially), it only comes with mass games. Don't bother learning it until you have really great macro.

iD Questioning your gaming-style
Change how you play. The style that you feel comfortable is not necessarily good. Don't be afraid to remodel your entire game. It doesn't take a long time to do, just a lot of persistence.

iD Have fun
Have fun. If you are not having fun playing, don't bother. A player of similar skill that is having fun is going to outperform you. Emotion has a lot to do with how well someone plays a particular game.
